We are always striving to ensure that our students are working at a pace and level that best meets their individual needs. Students will work hard this year to learn many different things in a variety of ways. This year will challenge all of us to ensure student needs are being met and you, as parents, are not overwhelmed in the process.
We will use a variety of tools and online resouces as well as daily meetings and prerecorded videos to meet the needs of our students.

Reading, Writing, & WordsWe use the Lucy Calkins' Reading and Writing Units of Study. Through 7 units, we will teach the children how to be deeper thinkers, more thorough in their writing and talking and how to engage in a text by doing more than simply reading the words. Our units are aligned in a way that allows us to focus on both fiction and nonfiction throughout the year.
We will continue to use the Fountas & Pinnell phonics program to help our students understand how words work, familiar patterns and sounds and how to change letters to make new words. |
MathWe will be using the Georgia Math Curriculum. This math program is a break away from traditional math. Students are challenged to think about how to solve problems in various ways often coming up with more than one way to solve a problem. Additionally, Georgia is a hands-on program that encourages creativity, growth mindset and social skills through the tasks and games. Many days, assignments are open ended to allow for critical thinking and creative problem solving.
