PBIS and Classroom Expectations
What you'll see if you visit and what your child may talk about at home. Please ask them about ALL of these practices this year!
Our Classroom SystemIt is my goal to build a classroom community where student feel safe to learn and take chances. We spend a great deal of time learning about growth mindset and how you can grow your brain just like you grow your muscles by doing hard work. In order for children to do hard work and feel safe taking scary chances, we need to develop a family of learners who all work together for the greater good. By using ClassDojo, students earn points for doing the right thing. They can earn points many times throughout the day. Sometimes, they may even earn multiple points at the same time! This system is designed to highlight the positive things happening in the classroom and create a buzz of excitement when they hear the positive ding. Conversely, this system also tracks when students are not meeting school wide expectations. |
Our RulesThe school wide expectations are that all children will
Be Safe Be Responsible Be Respectful We have school wide initiatives and classroom roll outs to teach and explain what this looks like at school and in different setting likes the cafeteria, playground and bathroom. We use these 3 rules as the groundwork for all other expectations and rules. Being safe, responsible and respectful are ways children will clip up in the classroom. |
Growth MindsetGrowth mindset is the belief that all children are capable of learning. Instead of complimenting a child on how smart they are, I will instead compliment their perseverance, persistence and ability to work through problems. We want to teach and encourage all learners by structuring our day in a way that challenges them, but also helps them to feel successful.
Studies show that all brains can grow (like any muscle) when given rigorous tasks. |
Zone of RegulationWe teach all students about self regulation. This means, we are teaching children to recognize their emotional state and then giving them tools to use to help them maintain a calm and "happy" state.
There are 4 zones: Blue: tired, lethargic, sad Green: happy, content, calm Yellow: frustrated, annoyed Red: angry, hyper, out of control There are no good or bad zones. Every person experiences all of the zones each day, this program helps children learn about keeping their bodies safe and calm. |
Yoga in Our RoomI am certified as a Yoga4Classrooms teacher.
Throughout our day we will using calming breathes and yoga poses to help get our minds and bodies ready to learn. As a school children will learn various techniques for calming their bodies down when over excited our angry. Studies show that 3 calming breathes can decrease heart rate and in turn, lower blood pressure allowing someone to return to the green zone where they are "ready to learn". |
